World
War II was filled to overflowing with people with strong and unique
personalities: Churchill, Stalin, Mussolini, Roosevelt, Hitler and many
more. Thousands of books
record the war and the history, actions and consequences of the main
players, who have all been exhaustively examined and biographed in great
detail. One of the most
interesting was Hermann Goering, Hitler’s number two man in the Nazi
Empire, the Nazi’s economic czar, and the head of the famous Luftwaffe
air force. Literally scores of
books have been written about Goering and the study of him can occupy
years but this book summarizes the most important of them and draws
conclusions about his place in history.

Forty-six
historic tales of murder and mayhem on a global scale: This book contains
true stories, authenticated through the use of both modern and
contemporary sources. They range from the year 1337 BCE through 2006 CE,
from the United States and Europe to the Mid-east and the Orient. The
murderers range from incompetent to highly competent and from despicable
to glorious. The victims were prominent politically and, in some cases,
financially. Some deserved to die, most did not. All four assassinations
of US Presidents are included, as are three attempted Presidential
assassinations. Although the stories make interesting reading by
themselves, the grouping of them in a single volume gives breadth and
allows the reader to understand the scope of the assassination phenomenon,
to see trends and to assess their value.

Years as a Volunteer Treasurer

Many
small volunteer and non-profit organizations have their own sources of
funds, but do not have the resources to employ professional accountants to
keep the books. Usually a
volunteer steps in and agrees to do the work.
Commonly,
the organization’s treasurer takes custody of its financial resources,
assures that those resources are securely and profitably invested, manages
inflows and expenses, deals with and manages obligations to various
government entities, and reports to the organization on its financial
status and progress. The
organization expects integrity, precision, consistency and reliability in
return and judges the treasurer’s performance accordingly.
Becoming
a volunteer treasurer can involve a significant learning curve.
Jan Young spent thirty years as treasurer for a small church and
experienced it in full. His
book is intended to help both the new and the experienced volunteer
treasurer by presenting a primer on the required methods and procedures
and by including a number of valuable recommendations on taxes, budgets,
audits and more

The
United States Constitution is the most important document ever created in
the USA and one of the half-dozen or so most important ever written by
humankind. Its importance is
due to the fact that it underpins everything we do, every right and
responsibility we have, and every freedom we enjoy.
Almost
all of us know that the Constitution exists.
And almost all of us know a few of its key provisions.
But few of us have a detailed understanding and fewer still have
actually read it. As a
result, many of us misunderstand it, or significant portions of it.
The
Constitution is not a difficult document to read.
The original document written in 1780 is only four pages long and
although some wording and some spelling is now archaic, it is clear and
easily understood. But with
all the amendments, the job of reading the Constitution becomes more
time-consuming.
This
book contains a brief history and description of the US Constitution and
its Amendments, starting with the original document and proceeding through
the Amendments, one at a time, all in chronological order.
It includes discussions of amendments that have passed Congress,
but have not become effective for lack of ratification, and some of the
more important amendments that have been proposed, but have not been
approved by Congress. It concludes with commentaries and highlights of
some State Constitutions and with a brief history of the USS Constitution,
the oldest naval vessel in the world. Selected technical terms are explained and a full index is
provided.
